Thehybridsystemisthewaveofthefuture,andnowtherearemore incentivestopurchaseone.OwnersofthePrius,oranyotherhybrid gas-and-electricvehicle,maybeeligibleforafederalincometax deduction.AccordingtotheInternalRevenueService,hybridvehicles qualifyforalong-standingtaxdeductionthatappliestovehicles poweredbyclean-burningfuels.Thepolicyallowsaone-time deduction,whichcanbeclaimedbytheconsumerfortheyearthecar wasfirstputinuse. Initssimplestform,ahybridsystemcombinesthebestoperating characteristicsofaninternalcombustionengineandanelectricmotor. Moresophisticatedhybridsystems,suchtheToyotaHybridSystem, recoverenergyotherwiselosttoheatinthebrakesanduseitto supplementthepowerofitsfuel-burningengine.Thesesophisticated techniquesallowtheToyotaHybridSystemtoachievesuperiorfuel efficiencyandamassivereductioninCO2. Whenthebrakepedalisdepressed,mostinitialbrakingforcecomes fromRegenerativeBrakingandtheforcerequiredtoturnMG2asa generator.Thehydraulicbrakesprovidemorestoppingpowerasthe vehicleslows. Deceleration and Braking When the vehicle decelerates, kinetic energy from the wheels is recovered and converted in to electrical energy and used to recharge the HV battery by means of MG2. Reverse MG2 rotates backwards to move the vehicle in reverse. The engine does not run.
